What is Hypnosis

Your Hypnotherapy treatment

During your Hypnotherapy treatment, you will have an initial consulatation where you can discuss your requirements. Your therapist will ask questions about lifestyle, medical information, symptoms and other healthcare providers who you are seeing for treatment.  You will also learn how many sessions may be required and the cost of therapy. The session will usually end with a relaxation therapy.
During subsequent sessions the work begins to make the positive changes that you desire.
Therapy sessions usually last up to 1 hour.
Smoking Cessation does not require an initial consultation.
Certain conditions will require the therapist to contact your doctor before therapy commences.

A natural state

Hypnosis is a natural state of selective, focused attention which we enter many times during the day. For example while watching a sad movie, have you ever been so absorbed that you shed a tear, even though you know that the film isn't real? When we enter this focused state of hypnosis, we have an enhanced capacity to respond to suggestion where we can bring about subconscious change to our thoughts, behaviours and feelings.

Hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy which is used as a treatment to break unwanted habits, reduce stress and anxiety, for pain relief, exam nerves and for smoking cessation to name but a few. Hypnobirthing which uses hypnosis, visualisation and breathing techniques is accredited by the Royal College of Midwifes as an effective way for expectant mothers to have a calmer birth experience.

Currently in the UK, there are no laws regulating Hypnotherapists so when choosing a Hypnotherapist it is important to ensure that they have relevant qualifications, are insured and are part of a professional body.

Hypnobirthing is another area which is not regulated, where you will find that many teachers have not undergone proper Hypnotherapy training.
